Allah Almighty has declared Ramadan as the most virtuous month compared to all other months of the year. Countless blessings and mercy descend from Allah during this month, making Ramadan a period filled with divine grace. For Muslims, it is a time to earn Allah’s mercy and blessings. Muslims across the world strive to perform as many good deeds as possible through worship during this holy month. Ramadan is considered the leader of all months, where every act of goodness is rewarded seventy times more. It was during this month that the Holy Quran was revealed, and within it lies a night whose worship is better than a thousand months. Therefore, it is wise for every individual to plan their time during Ramadan, dedicating themselves to reciting and understanding the Quran, engaging in acts of charity, and working for the betterment of humanity.
Ramadan brings a spiritual revolution in the life of every Muslim. For an entire month, Muslims not only observe fasting and prayers but also actively contribute to the welfare of their fellow believers and society through charity and zakat. Around the world, Muslims take special care of their families and relatives during this month, ensuring their well-being and helping them with financial and other difficulties.
Pakistan, being an Islamic state, unfortunately, still struggles with economic disparities and class divisions, failing to alleviate poverty or bring social balance. The increasing inflation and profiteering during Ramadan severely impact the financial and domestic life of the common citizen. Sadly, the number of beggars and people asking for alms also rises significantly during this month. According to a survey, the growing number of beggars hinders genuine charitable efforts, as many of them seek to exploit the generosity of the public. These beggars flood the streets, markets, and neighborhoods, often creating an atmosphere of extortion and exploitation. As a result, the donations and zakat meant for the truly needy often end up in the hands of this begging mafia.
To eliminate the menace of beggary and freeloading, the government and those in power must introduce a special financial support system for every citizen during Ramadan. Wealthy individuals should also avoid distributing charity openly and instead contribute to hospitals, schools, or welfare organizations, playing a role in strengthening the country’s economic condition. The government and relevant institutions should control rising food prices from the beginning of Ramadan and promote affordable markets instead of distributing free items. This approach would enable every citizen to observe Ramadan and celebrate Eid with dignity, without compromising their self-respect.
Ramadan is a month of spreading happiness and ease. Believe it—bringing joy and comfort to Allah’s creation is the highest and most essential form of worship.
