Empowering the People: Maryam Nawaz Brings Relief, Ration, and Rights to Punjab’s Doorstep

In a bold move to combat food insecurity and uplift the underprivileged, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced the launch of a major welfare initiative — the distribution of ration cards to 1.25 million deserving individuals across the province starting May 1st, 2025. Addressing a public event in Lahore, the Chief Minister stated that these ration cards are aimed at easing the burden of kitchen expenses for low-income families, providing them with critical support amid rising living costs.

Maryam Nawaz emphasized that special persons (individuals with disabilities) must register themselves on the Social Welfare Department’s portal to ensure they receive the assistance they are entitled to. “I deeply understand the struggles of families with special needs members,” she said, reaffirming her government’s commitment to inclusivity and compassionate governance. She praised Provincial Minister Sohail Shaukat Butt and his team for turning her vision into reality, stating they had “fulfilled her dream.”

Highlighting other milestones, Maryam Nawaz shared that under the Dhee Rani Program, 2,000 weddings for underprivileged girls have been successfully arranged. She stressed that state support can transform the lives of vulnerable citizens, especially when it steps in during their most challenging times. She proudly remarked, “Power has now changed direction—today, the government knocks on the doors of its people instead of waiting for them to come forward.”

The Chief Minister added that more than 3 million people were reached directly at their doorsteps, ensuring they received their rightful benefits. In a landmark housing effort, Maryam Nawaz also announced that citizens without property ownership will be provided with 3-marla residential plots free of cost, and over 30,000 houses have already been constructed under the Apna Ghar Scheme.

Through this wide-ranging welfare agenda, Maryam Nawaz continues to redefine public service in Punjab — not as a distant promise, but as a visible, active presence in the lives of the people.
