The National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) has issued a critical weather warning for Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and several other districts of Punjab, forecasting severe rainstorms and possible hailstorms on April 18 and 19, 2025. According to a spokesperson from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), districts including Attock, Chakwal, Gujrat, Jhelum, Faisalabad, Hafizabad, Jhang, Khushab, Mianwali, Narowal, Sahiwal, Sargodha, Sheikhupura, and Lahore may experience intense weather activity, including gusty winds, thunderstorms, and localized hail.
The NDMA warned that such extreme conditions could potentially disrupt power supply, cause infrastructural damage, and increase the risk of accidents. Furthermore, the expected weather poses a serious threat to standing crops, particularly in central Punjab, which may suffer extensive damage if precautionary measures are not taken.
Residents have been advised to stay updated through the NDMA Disaster Alert mobile app and avoid unnecessary travel during the warning period. Farmers have been urged to make early preparations to protect their crops from storm-related destruction. Citizens are also reminded to stay away from weak structures and large trees during strong winds or storm events to avoid injuries.
This alert comes as part of the NDMA’s ongoing commitment to climate resilience and public safety, highlighting the growing impact of unpredictable weather patterns on both urban and rural livelihoods.
