Sindh Government to Host Inclusive Sports Event for Transgender Community in Sukkur on April 18.
In a progressive move towards inclusivity and social integration, the Sindh government has announced a first-of-its-kind sports event specifically organized for the transgender community. Set to take place on April 18 at the Municipal Stadium Sukkur, the event aims to promote equality, visibility, and empowerment through the unifying spirit of sports.
The event is being organized by the Sindh Provincial Sports Department, which has confirmed that cricket, tug-of-war, and a series of traditional street games will be held, tailored to reflect the culture and enthusiasm of the participants.
According to the Sports Secretary, teams comprising 35 transgender athletes from Sukkur and Khairpur will take part in the competitions. Notably, the cricket and tug-of-war matches will showcase spirited face-offs between two well-known transgender community leaders — Saba Shah and Sawira Baloch — who will captain their respective teams. Their match is scheduled for 7:00 PM under the floodlights, promising an exciting and energetic atmosphere.
The government will be providing customized tracksuits and a daily stipend to all participants to ensure they are supported and comfortable during the event. The initiative is seen as part of a larger vision to create safe and equal spaces for marginalized groups, allowing them to express themselves beyond societal stereotypes.
In addition to being a sports event, this initiative is also a statement — a celebration of identity, resilience, and community. Organizers hope this becomes a regular part of Sindh’s sports calendar, encouraging similar efforts across the country.
A festive ambiance is expected at the stadium, with local spectators, supporters of the transgender rights movement, and government representatives likely to attend in solidarity.
